Funny you mention Perot, Michael. The “lightbulb” first went on for me when I heard him make that comment decades ago. A seed was planted, and events over the past 10 or so years have propelled me into independent camp (tending towards libertarian).

Our republic has definitely been highjacked. It’s been going on for longer than any of us have been alive — quietly, insidiously, under the radar — and it’s never been more obvious than it is now. As you say, it’s ALWAYS been about wealth and inequality. Elites have always used money to control us, and it’s time we awaken to this uncomfortable reality and come together to stop it. Our strength is in our numbers. We have more power than we realize.
