I think many are still in denial, Chris. I have quite a few friends who are heavily invested in the “voting will fix our problems” narrative. They though that by getting Trump out of office, we would be in better shape. They can’t admit that our problems transcend Trump or that we’re actually in worse shape now.

I see what we’re experiencing now as a collective death of ideals and illusions. Remember that there are 5 stages of death: denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance. We are still at the very beginning of this process. The next phase —anger—is going to get very ugly. So be ready!
