I would have a delegation of important Democrats approach Mr. Biden and urge him to admit that he did press Ms. Reade up against a wall, but deny that he penetrated her with his finger. In return, they would close ranks behind him and, after giving people time to work out their anger, insist that we move on to win the election. I don’t know what the truth of the incident is, but nobody else does, and the truth doesn’t matter to anybody; this is all about politics.

I think this is where you and I fundamentally diverge, my friend. The truth does matter to someone: me. In fact, I think it matters more than you think to a lot of other people, which is why so many progressives aren’t “falling into line” behind Biden. I don’t want him to confess to anything he didn’t do. I don’t want him to confess to less than he actually did. I want him to tell us what really happened. And by the way, pressing a woman up against the wall isn’t the kind of behavior that endears me to a man who supposedly fights for women’s rights. If his actions betray his belief on this issue, how can I trust him to defend the other values he claims to hold?

It lets those who believe Ms. Reade the opportunity to have their week of public gnashing of teeth and rending of hair.

That sounds very condescending. This isn’t about teeth-gnashing and hair-rending. This is about a party that purportedly thinks all women should be believed. The party should take actions that are consistent with its platform. When a party advocates half-confessions as a means of pacifying its constituents, can you really be surprised when people when jump ship and refuse to support it?

It doesn’t. Mr. Biden’s guilt or innocence has nothing to do with Mr. Kavanaugh’s guilt or innocence.

No, but the search for Biden’s guilt or innocence has everything to do with Kavanaugh’s guilt or innocence. In other words, the Kavanaugh affair is relevant with respect to the process, not the outcome. How can any reasonable person reconcile the fact that Democrats insisted that Christine Blasey Ford should be believed when making a claim that occurred more than 40 years ago, yet Tara Reade should be doubted for making a claim from 27 years ago? Why aren’t Democrats defending Reade with the ferocity they defended Ford? We both know the answer, of course. As you said earlier, it’s merely politics. And this, again, is why Democrats are circling the drain: their so-called platform — be it with respect to poverty, race, or women’s rights — is completely hollow and meaningless. The GOP hasn’t outsmarted Dems; Dems have out-dumbed themselves.

I see that you have decided that Mr. Biden is guilty in the absence of compelling evidence. Do you even care if Mr. Trump is re-elected?

As you said, we don’t know whether Biden is guilty or incident, nor do we know if Kavanaugh was guilty or innocent. My sole concern is the glaring double standard I see playing out.

The obsession with getting rid of Trump, by any means necessary and regardless of who we replace him with, is the core of the Democrats’ problem. They’ve become way too Macchiavellian to be of any real use to the people they purport to represent. They claim to defend the rights of women and blacks, even as they advocate a a man (Biden) accused of the same sexual transgressions Trump has been accused of, even as they advocate men (Biden and Bloomberg) who have equally wretched records with respect to protecting people of color.

Yes, you’ll be so much better off with another four years of Mr. Trump. 😛

Honestly, the only difference I’ve noticed between my life under Trump and my life under Obama is that (1) the media have driven me to completely tune them out because they’ve become so shrill and patently biased and (2) and it’s gotten ridiculously hard to make ends meet. I believe #1 is solely the product of a Trump president. #2, however, has been happening for decades because this country is in slow motion collapse. Only the naive believe that this would/could/might change under a Biden presidency.

You might want to read this story about why the Republicans keep winning elections and screwing the country.

I will do so. Thanks.
