Thank you, Sheri. I didn’t even think it took guts to write this until my partner read it and asked, “Uh…are you sure you should have posted this? You don’t want to alienate people.”
And I thought to myself: “So this is how far we’ve gone now? You write something that points out blatant inconsistencies (otherwise known as hypocrisy) in the narrative, and ask people to use a little common sense, and that somehow offends people?”
Then I realized she’s probably right in a way. Pointing these things out may not piss people off, per se, but it might create a cognitive dissonance that many people can’t respond to or rationalize, so it may may them uncomfortable. And that brings silence — which is how this article was received when I posted it on Facebook. If I had written a piece on how badly Trump sucks, I would have had 100+ likes and a bunch of comments. But all I got was crickets.
Yes, you are right. Right now, I’m not sure which is in shorter supply: critical thinking or toilet paper.
