Thank you so much for writing this. Financial privilege is a topic that is too rarely discussed and affects more people than we probably realize. I’m black, and my parents were able to buy their first home in the mid-60s on a meager government income. I went to law school 30 years later and was only able to afford my first home in Los Angeles when I was 36. Fast forward 20 years and I doubt that even many lawyers in LA under 40 can afford a home. The problem of privilege is not only one of class. As you pointed out, being born in America during a certain era afforded significantly greater privilege to many. As a white man, you are now feeling the sting of privilege. Very soon, I think privilege will not recognize color; all but a few on this planet will be on the outside, looking in.
