Operating out of self-interest in a capitalist economy doesn’t constitute “conspiracy,” so I think that assertion is a red herring that detracts from the true motivations of the players involved.

And with respect, I must disagree that non-American news entities necessarily report the same things. I think this is only the case when non-American news entities are also owned by corporate and elite interests — which, of course, happens quite often. My experience has been that independent news sources in all countries tend to embrace more diverse reporting styles and address issues and facts that are often overlooked or ignored by larger, corporate-owned news entities.

In a world in which even our elected leaders are increasingly de-tethered from ethical standards, I think it would be naive to assume that journalists who are paid by the wealthiest interests on the planet are somehow immune from the corruption and bias that have infiltrated nearly every nook and cranny of human relationships and organizations. Doubting the ethical nature of those who lead and inform us isn’t foolish; at this point, it’s merely common sense.
