The problem is that this is what we keep hearing every election season.
The Democratic Establishment consistently tells us that we just need to focus on getting “this” bad guy, or “this” fascist, or “this” neo-con, or “this” madman out of office. Our attention is always kept so focused on an immediate threat so we don’t notice that the party that’s supposed to “save” us isn’t doing jack.
The Democratic Party now exists merely as the faux Batman to the Republican Joker. Without the threat of this boogeyman, the party has no purpose. This means the Democratic party never has to do accomplish anything. It will never be forced to improve the quality of life of its constituents. It never needs to make good on its liberal ideals.
It simply needs to not be the Republican Party.
As long as it does that, it can keep stringing progressive voters along indefinitely, always promising them “real” change as soon as they get rid of the latest Joker.
