Were you perchance alive during Election 2000? Were you among the legions of Democrats (like me) who supported Al Gore in legally contesting the election for more than a month because he and millions of others believed (for good reason) that the electoral process had been tainted? Republicans accused Gore and others of perpetrating a lie. But you see, there is no crime in contesting an election. Gore and his supporters were permitted to speak their minds for one reason: the First Amendment.

And now you would permit the government to gut the single protection that allowed Gore to contest the election, that would allow you to contest the election of *any* candidate if you believed the process was tainted?

My friend, your position is not only laughable; it’s ridiculously short-sighted.

Nothing — and I repeat, NOTHING — is a greater threat to democracy than an attempt to eviscerate the First Amendment. Without this protection, nothing else matters. And God forbid the man you loathe manage to get into office with the First Amendment gutted under Biden’s misguided direction.

The problem with Americans is that they only think five seconds ahead, only see five feet in front of them, and can never imagine that the tables will turn.
